COMPUTER SCIENCE
Laura Krismer
B.A. Elementary Education
In 1988, math teacher Laura Krismer initiated a K-8 computer program which continues to evolve as technology advances.  The K-2 students work regularly with academic-based software programs in the classroom, in their classrooms, and in the computer lab.

Students in grades 3-8 work in small-sized groups in the computer lab as they learn responsible use of the computer and Internet as tools. Correct keyboarding techniques, word processing, spreadsheets and PowerPoint as well as Internet research and Internet safety are integrated with curricular projects in language arts, math, science, and social studies.


PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Mary Yankowski
B.A. Physical Education
Mary Yankowski understands the value of play as an opportunity to teach life-long skills.  For the youngest students, the majority of their physical education classes focus on games and activities that teach directionality, large/small motor skills, progression of skills, trying new things, taking turns, appreciating others and their differences, following simple and complex directions, balance, catching/throwing, and eye-hand coordination.  As the students progress, the addition of team sports, cooperative learning, physical fitness training and testing are added to the curriculum.


LIBRARY/INSTRUCTIONAL TUTOR
Cathy Librandi
B.A. Early Childhood Education
M.Ed. Learning Disabilities
Ms. Librandi's great pleasure has been to work with the children of  St. Bartholomew School. She strives to expand teaching techniques to provide a variety of approaches which create an atmosphere of cooperative learning between students and teacher. She provides an atmosphere that will help students develop confidence in themselves and respect for all people. Positive behavior is stressed through good example.


MUSIC

Music encompasses many elements. Among those are singing, movement, music appreciation, performance and theory. Ms. Krismer implements these as part of the PK-8 general music curriculum. 

SPANISH
Claudia Mendez
   BS Early Childhood Education
With 12 years of prior experience at Chicago Public Schools, Ms. Mendez brings a background rich in the Hispanic Culture. Learning the Spanish language is only part of her curriculum. The students also celebrate holidays and learn the customs and music of the culture.
